Ten Steps To Mastering Refilling Inkjet Cartridges

Without ink, your inkjet printer is pretty useless. Without ink, your cartridge is pretty useless. The most important component is ink, because even if you have empty cartridges at least you can give them a new lease of life by refilling inkjet cartridges.

Refilling inkjet cartridges over and over again can reduce their life span, but there is a lot you can do to extend the life of cartridges. Using inkjet printer refills correctly can dramatically increase the life of a cartridge.

It’s important to follow the steps outlined below to maximize the use of printer refill kits and improve the health of your printer:

1. Don’t let your ink cartridges dry out. If you are not using your printer for extended periods, it is best to store the ink cartridges in an airtight plastic bag. This will help keep them moist and prevent them from clogging up.

2. Avoid letting your ink cartridges drain of ink. Keeping your cartridges filled of ink will help them perform far better and prevent ink from drying up inside, causing potential blockages.

Refilling inkjet cartridges before they run out of ink will help extend their life. You can buy printer refill kits in office supply stores, but to get a better deal it’s always best to buy online to avoid the middleman and save yourself some extra money.

3. Printer refill kits require manual refilling, which is great. Why? Because when your cartridge is out of a particular color you can go ahead and refill that specific color you’re out of. How can you tell if you’re out of a certain color? Well if your printer was printing green as blue and orange as red you’d know that you were out of yellow. Another obvious sign is streaks and bad quality printing. The three ink compartments are cyan, yellow and magenta.

4. Do you know what happens when you turn a biro pen upside down for a long time? It leaks, weird isn’t it, you’d think that if you had a biro pen in your pocket you’re better off turning it upside down, but you’d be very wrong. Gravity keeps ink down, so it’s important to keep your inkjet cartridges with their heads down to prevent them from drying up.

5. Keep your ink cartridges clean. A messy head will affect print quality and leave your cartridge prone to blockages. Regular cleaning cycles will save your cartridge and keep print quality high.

6. Keep your print cartridges out of sunlight and extreme temperatures, this goes for your printer too. This may cause damage or cause your ink to dry up or fail to print properly.

7. Handle your cartridges with care, too much handling might ruin them or affect printing. The nozzles or sensitive parts should not be touched, unless they are being gently cleaned with a swab.

8. Never shake your cartridge as ink may come out of the entry or exit points. Shaking may also damage the casing or components inside.

9. There are several causes for poor printing as I’ve mentioned above. In cases where you’ve read the inkjet printer refill manual and failed to diagnose and find a solution for a particular problem, it’s always best to seek help direct from the manufacturer.

10. When refilling inkjet cartridges make sure you’re using a printer refill kit that is compatible with the ink cartridge you have. Make sure you use quality ink and that empty cartridge is clean and undamaged.
