With the onset of global warming, the droughts some states are experiencing, and the rise in gas prices everyone is trying to do what they can in order to preserve. However, the one thing most people overlook in our technologically advanced society is inkjet cartridge recycling. There is approximately 350 million inkjet cartridges that end up in the landfill every year. They even say if you line up the cartridges from one year’s waste end-to-end that it could circle the Earth twice over. That is a lot of unnecessary garbage. So what can you do to help?
In addition to making sure you are recycling inkjet cartridges from your own household, you could arrange to start drives in your neighborhood, business, or educational institution which collects empty inkjet cartridges. These are cartridges could then be sold to companies such as Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max and the money can be used to purchase additional cartridges for your neighbors or business establishments. Or they could be donated to charity and provide a tax write-off, incentive for any business, while helping to preserve the world.
The process wouldn’t be all that time consuming. Just place a few collection boxes in popular areas, like the computer lab at a school or in the break room or supply closet of any business. That way they are in places people general travel and it won’t be too out of the way for them to drop by their empty cartridges. Then all that is left is to spread the word about the good deed you’re doing. Tell the Lab Technicians about the boxes and make sure they’re putting the printer cartridges in, also tell professors and post flyers for students so they can bring in their cartridges from home. Also be sure to tell any bosses or management members at your business so they can pass it down or up the chain of command as needed and everyone can assist with recycling inkjet cartridges.
From there it’s just about making a visit to one of the locations to pick up the donations and then driving them over with the donation target. However, to make it even easier for this, there are charities which will provide collection containers, like Funding Factory, and pick up the donations every week or month as needed or pay postage for you to ship your donations to them. All you have to do is rally the troops, do a little public relations (which should be cake, who doesn’t want to help the environment and themselves by recycling inkjet cartridges), and viola, you have saved the day and earned the respect and appreciation of those around you.
